Science of Falling is first and foremost an educational website about all things balance and falling. During this journey of learning and educating, I have come across products that I believe not only share my values as a Physical Therapist, but also can bring benefits to you the reader. Due to my belief in these products, I have contacted these businesses and established a relationship with them. Some of these relationships have come with discount codes that I get to provide you with, and some do not. Either way, I fully endorse the quality and benefits of all the products below and encourage you to follow the links and check them out!

Science of Falling receives a small commission based off your purchases when you follow the links or use my codes. All commissions go directly back into growing Science of Falling at no extra cost to you. It’s a win-win and I will always be 100% transparent about these relationships.

*Disclaimer: Although I endorse these products, as well as use these products myself, I can not guarantee the same positive experiences that I have had myself. I encourage you to contact the sellers if any issues arise.

General Info: Based out of Petaluma, CA Earth Runners are the ultimate barefoot sandal. A specially designed lacing system allows a snug fit while allowing the toes to splay naturally. Vibram soles are used for long lasting use and amazing grip for all terrains. These sandals can keep up with you during your daily activities, or a full on marathon. I’m not kidding, people actually run marathons in these. When was the last time you did that in flip-flops? Plus, they have a unique copper design for the added benefit of Earthing via the shoes if you are into that sort of thing (personally I am not, but there is research to support Earthing so who knows. I am a fan of straight up barefoot on the ground though!)

My Opinion: I actually really use to hate sandals of any kind until I got these. I’ve been rocking the Elemental Adventure Sandals in black with the Performance laces. Initially, it was hard to break in the laces, and get my toes use to the strap. After a week or so I was all good. Now I’ve done quite a few runs in these, and even a bit of parkour and rail balancing in them. They get a solid two thumbs up from me.

Highly recommend these shoes as they are my every day shoe for work and the gym! Unfortunately, Lems does not provide a discount at this time.

General Info: Based out of Boulder, CO Lems are designed to mirror the natural shape of the human foot. Unlike traditional footwear products that squeeze the toes together, the toe area in Lems allows for maximum room, giving the toes ultimate freedom to wiggle and spread. All of Lems shoes also provide minimal heel drop with many zero drop options available to facilitate healthy posture and comfort all day long.

My Opinion: Lems come in all different styles for all of life’s journeys including the gym, the mountain, and the office. Currently I’ve been wearing the Primal 2s in black. I wear these shoes both for my 10 hour work shifts and exercise. I use to wear Reeboks a lot but my toes got squished so bad by the end of my day that I would commute home barefoot. Since wearing the Primal 2s I haven’t had this issue, and I actually have far less calluses in between my toes. Fair warning though, if you aren’t use to minimalist shoes your muscles are in for one heck of a workout!

General Info: If you’ve seen my videos you may have picked up on my love for general fitness. To create a fall proof body you not only need the appropriate fall and balance skills, but also the muscle to back them up. Flybird Fitness gives you the tools to build muscle, strength, and endurance at an affordable price.

My opinion: This company makes exercise equipment that gets the job done and lasts. It may not have the name of bigger brands, but in no way does that mean it is not worth the price. They give a good starter kit for a home gym, although you may eventually need more than the products they offer. They currently sell benches, adjustable dumbbells, and a pullup bar.
